This pair of AYA No 1 sidelock shotguns will be up for sale at Amoskeag's next auction. This is a unique pair of guns considering the features and would have been at the top end of the AYA models when they were built in the 60's. With an estimate of $3,000-$4,000, this is a chance to own a true pair of guns for far less than any British or Italian pair. Other lots of special note in the auction include a rare Winchester model 1910 deluxe semi-auto rifle; a Smith Civil War Carbine; a Colt Cloverleaf model revolver; a SWD M11-A1 submachinegun; a pair of British Ppercussion pistols by J.W. LEONARD JOEL, CLASSIC FURNITURE, OBJECTS, AND COLLECTABLES, MAY 19TH

This fine Lloyd's Patriotic Fund sword of 50 pound value will soon be on the auction block at Leonard Joel. It was presented to Lieutenant Charles Menzies in 1806. On 22nd June 1806 Menzies was in one of the Minerva's boats that were responsible for cutting out five boats from under Fort Finisterre. He led a landing party which rushed the fort with pikes and bayonets. Menzies was the first to enter, lowered the enemy's colours and raised the British flag. The British suffered no casualties. On 11th July he planned an attack on a barge that captured the Spanish Privateer Buena Dicha and was instrumental in cutting out the Spanish vessel of war St. Joseph, landing at the Bay of Arosa and taking prisoner the Spanish commodore. Menzies also led the Marines at the capture of Fort Guardia. During this period he was severely wounded and his right arm was amputated. Click on the image for a link to Leonard Joel's website. |

The weapons section of the sale includes a superb group of Islamic weapons, among them some magnificent eighteenth century scimitars with exceptional damascened blades with gold inlay engravings; rare pairs of flintlock pistols, in particular a pair of the Neapolitan manufactured Officer’s pistols with barrels by Michele Battista. There will also be wheellock pistols from Brescia; military sabres; cased duelling pistols; revolvers; splendid flintlocks guns, and of special note a rifle by the famous gunsmith Lorenzoni, with and unusual lock; Pictured are a superlative pair of Chinese swords, embellished with coral and turquoise stones The sale also inludes a fine group of weapons from the Old West; an important painting depicting a cavalry scene and many other lots. This fine and rare Colt Paterson No. 3 Belt Model revolver with flared grips in original case with full original accessories is expected to bring $125,000-$175,000 on the auction block at Little John's next firearms sale. Among the 1,720 other lots in the same sale are a Winchester exhibition quality high relief engraved 1866 carbine attributed to Conrad F. Ulrich recently discovered in Turkey and never before offered for sale on the collectors market,; a Serial number 1 Texas Patterson -- the 1st Colt pistol to break the $1,000,000 mark in the mid-1990s; 1860 Henry rifle in very good plus condition showing considerable original blue; a Harpers Ferry Model 1805 flintlock pistol, .54 caliber, 10-1/16” round barrel with iron rib below holding an iron ramrod ferrule, brass mountings, lockplate dated 1808; and a rare and original Marlin trappers Model 93 lever action S.R.C. in .32 H.P.S. caliber with factory 15” barrel, full magazine, blue and case hardened finish. This striking serpentine-hilted and gold damascened kilij from the late 18th or early 19th century is expected to fetch upwards of $50,000 on the auction block at Bonham's upcoming arms and armor sale at their San Francisco saleroom. Other items of note in this sale include a cased .410 gauge Abbiatico & Salvinelli Rondo Quatrocanne four barrel hammer gun; an incised American powder horn attributed to the 'Mementos Mori' carver; a British iron carronade swivel gun with attribution to the Revolutionary War; a silver-mounted Caucasian kindjal; a scarce Spanish Colonial halberd; and a composed suit of cuirassier's armor with rare Italian anime cuirass.
